Marriage License

So, I called the Denver Temple a couple months ago to see where Grant and I had to get our license from: Was it the place where we got married or the place where we'll be living? I had heard both, so I called the temple to check. I talked to nice old lady who's brain apparently is slowing down, because she said that we could get a UTAH wedding license. That didn't sound quite right but she double checked and said yep, it's good.
Well, yesterday, I had the impression to call the temple again just to make sure. Ya...Utah license definitely WON'T WORK! I found out that not only does it have to be from Colorado, but it also expires after 30 days which means I can't get it next weekend when I go home...AH! They have an absentee application but at least one of us has to be present in person to receive it.
What were we going to do?! Fly home randomly to get a license? Miss the Friday before thanksgiving when we're already missing Monday and Tuesday?! I had no idea what to do, but then mom had the idea to just drive to Grand Junction to get it. So, that's what we'll do.
I'm just frustrated that I couldn't have planned for this before-hand, but what can you do? I should have checked with the state of colorado, but live and learn I guess.
Wouldn't that have been awful to show up the day of our wedding with the wrong license and we couldn't get married?! THAT WOULD BE HORRIBLE! I'm glad we figured this out now and not the morning of our wedding :)

I'm so ashamed...

I'm so ashamed! And I'm sure all my brothers would be ashamed too, but...preparing for marriage means many times we have to compromise. Well, Grant and I had a deal that if he bought an all-sports pass and wore a BYU T-shirt to the games, that I would get a USC shirt and wear it around campus...and that's what I'm doing today. I have to hold up my end of the deal. I was planning on looking cute today...I'm having a good hair day, my makeup turned out pretty good, I had a cute long sleeve black shirt on...and what do I have to put over it? A freaking Trojans shirt! I don't think Grant understands the type of sacrifice I'm making here! This could mean my family dis-owning me! I've already gotten dirty looks from wearing this dang T-shirt. Whatever, it's all in the name of love and compromise, right?

Answered Prayer

GRANT AND I FOUND AN APARTMENT! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! It is at 194 N 400 E and it's a cute little building with 6 apartments in it. It is a European style apartment with tons of storage space. You walk in and it has 4 long windows in the living room, then there's a front closet, and a bathroom off to the left, and then past that is the kitchen then the bedroom--it's seriously so great! It's going to be a lot of fun to decorate! Now, the real perks. It's 450 a month and the most the previous tenants have paid for utilities is 20 bucks a month! The only utilities we pay is electric. Did I mention it comes with a stove and fridge? Also, WE'RE IN STEPHEN AND EMILY'S WARD! This will be so fun! The real miracle is that the girl who was showing it was going to have an open house from 5-8 pm tonight...Grant and I got there at 4:55 PM, we saw it, we liked it, we made her an offer, she accepted, and about 2 minutes later some more people knocked and she said "sorry, it's already been sold." She told us there were about 40 people stopping by to look at it tonight, and we were the first ones there! This is the end of a long couple months of apartment searching, and Grant and I both love this apartment. We'll be sure to put up pictures after we get married and move in :) :) :)
Moral of the story: Keep praying, have faith, do your part, and Heavenly Father will help you find an apartment that you love that is within your budget.

I want my mommy!

MOM! COME VISIT ME!
I've been hearing and reading all about how pampered Meg has been this past week (granted she did just have a baby...) but still...school, planning a wedding, working, giving birth...it's all the same, right? ;) You know what though, life is good. I'm going home in 3 weeks to get my dress fitted, have a marvelous bridal shower with loved ones, and spend time with mama-bear. Then in 4 weeks, I will go through the temple, and in 8 weeks I'm going to wed the love of my life! Life is good, it's busy, it's crazy, sometimes it makes me want to smile and other times it makes me want to cry...right now I just want my mommy! I miss laughing with her, talking to her, being a dork with her, and I won't lie...cooking dinner every night is draining (however Grant cooks 1/2 the time so I can't really complain in that department haha). Needless to say mom, I'm looking forward to seeing you in 3 weeks. Might I add I haven't seen my sister April since August, so that'll be exciting to see her! I haven't seen Meg in heaven knows how long (has it really been since January?!) so if her and Eric could come up for me taking out my endowments that would be great! I'm happy to have Carliss and Emily close, and I still have my wonderful soul sisters Jules, Nik, Cebs, Emily, and Linds. As good as all these women are, a mother can do things no one else can. Mom, I miss your face and I'm excited to see you!
Love,
Your favorite daughter (biologically that is :) )

Wedding Plans!

AHHHHHH!!! MY WEDDING IS IN 75 DAYS AND COUNTING! Oh my dear freaking goodness, there is much to be done! I still need to take engagements, order and send out invites, and order bridesmaid dresses--hijole! I'm starting to get so excited and it's starting to feel REAL! Mom and I looked at invitations today and she put together a draft of what the invite looks like...I'm so excited! It'll be so classy :) I know my mom is going above and beyond her call of duty as the mother of the bride and she's just freaking superwoman. I'll keep you posted on the engagements, invites, and 47 more days till I take my out endowments :) :) :)

Oh school...

Oh my heck! I never knew my life would be so dang busy! First of all, school started on Monday, which was fine, but holy cow my schedule is busy. I am only in 14 credits, but I'm also working as a TA 15 hours a week, which isn't bad, but it is definitely time-consuming. I kind of feel like more of a role of a teacher than a TA. The professor teaches and answers questions and only has 1 office hour a day. I answer homework questions, grade homework, grade daily quizzes, grade weekly reading assignments, and deal with all the complaints, frustrations, worries, and sometimes pain and sorrow that comes with learning calculus. Yes, I feel like I'm being well-prepared to become a teacher. I was also going to do some undergraduate research with a professor, but that would bump my work schedule up to 20 hours a week...and considering I'm taking a couple courses for my major this semester, I decided 15 was my max amount of working per week this semester. My classes are all very interesting (even English 316 if you can believe that haha) and I'm shooting for at least a 3.5 this semester. As for Grant and I, well, he's just as busy as me. He works about 8-10 hours a week at hogi yogi and is taking 16 credits this fall...2 of those classes being accounting and calculus (he's definitely a smart boy!) With all that in mind, we don't really get to just hang out with each other and have fun. This whole week we've been at the library or gym together, which has been nice, but we don't really get to just hae fun...which is why I'm excited for tonight! After he gets off work we're going to cook dinner, make some pop corn, watch a movie, and play some card games, and tomorrow we get to go to the football game! Unfortunately we have to hold off on engagement pictures since our photographer had an unexpected surgery (Anna, I hope you feel better!) Engagements will come in a couple weeks! Life seems to always be busy, and once you think you can take a break it gets busier. Grant and I have been called to be Sunday School teachers, so that will be fun since we both love teaching :) I'll keep you updated on wedding plans as well!

Last week of freedom!

Alright, due to my sister, April, saying "I'll believe you'll update more when I see it..." well...I couldn't let her down. If you know me well you know that if someone challenges me I will willingly accept and fulfill that challenge :) So, this past week has been wonderful and crazy all at the same time...here's a break down!
Monday: I finished getting moved in with the help of my excellent mother! She was such a champ! We bought the temple topper for mine and Grant's wedding cake, and went grocery shopping, and ran all over kingdom come! I loved hanging out with my mom and I am definitely looking forward to October 21st when she flies over here :)
Tuesday: Mama left (sad day!) and I had training for New Student Orientation since I was a leader this year. Afterwards I went to the gym with Lindsay Despain (love ya girly!) ate dinner, and got all prettied up because the love of MY LIFE was coming back that night from St. George. I drove up with Grant and Carly to Logan to drop Carly off, and then I drove back while Grant slept (poor kid...a week a lake powell and then a few days with his family and getting no sleep will really suck it outta ya!)
Wednesday: Grant and I did everything together! I actually got a really sweet text from him that morning that said "Hey come over to my apartment--I'm cooking you breakfast." What a stud! We went to the bookstore, got our books, went to the gym, did some other stuff...but the most important thing we did that day was go to the temple. Lately my mom has been doing a lot of geneology work for my recently deceased grandmother's line. One of the names was my grandmother's step grandmother--Alma (her last name is German...starts with a B. Anyways, it was amazing being there in the temple. Grant baptized me and confirmed me, so it was a very neat experience and I felt very close to the spirit.
Thursday: This was the first day of New Student Orientation! It was a lot of fun to run around with the freshman and show them what being a Cougar is all about :) I taught them the fight song, went to a few exhibits, and then that night hung out with Grant.
Friday: I didn't end up going to NSO...I wasn't feeling good the whole day and my partner was fine without me--it all worked out.
Saturday: Today was a good day! We finally got our air-conditioning fixed (it's been a freaking sauna in our apartment!), I went to the gym, ran a few errands, opened up a new bank account, and....drum roll please...LINDSAY TAUGHT ME HOW TO DRIVE A STICK! WOOT WOOT! She's an excellent teacher. My friend Nate tried to teach me last summer and he was not a very patient teacher...Lindsay was great! I got it down pretty quick thanks to her mad skills :)
Well, school starts Monday and I'm actually excited! It'll be nice to be back in the Math lab and library so much and get back to a set schedule :)

It's about that time...

Alright ladies and gents, it's about that time that I finally update my BLOG! Just incase some of you didn't know, I'M ENGAGED! I'm the future Mrs. Grant Rowe Vanderhorst :) So, let me tell you our story.
Grant and I met at BYU (typical, right?) He actually gave a talk in church that blew me away and I just thought to myself "I have to meet this kid." So, I made sure to go into the same sunday school room as him, sat right infront of him, turned around and said "Hey :) I really enjoyed your talk. You did such a great job and it was exactly what I needed to hear." All I got from him was "Thanks." If you ask him about that exchange today he'll say it's because he was intimidated and was a fresh RM but I thought he wasn't interested at all! Nevertheless, we became friends via facebook, starting talking on facebook, starting hanging out at basketball games, ultimate frisbee, went on a few dates, became best friends, starting dating, he asked me to marry him, I said yes :)
Let me tell you our engagement story. He came to visit me over the 4th of July and I knew that he would be proposing soon, but I didn't think it would be during the 4th of July. Anyways, he came, and the second night he was here he asked my dad for my hand in marriage. The next day we were kind of hanging around the house and I was playing the guitar for him and singing and out of no where he pulls his laptop out of his backpack and says "Hey I have something for you to watch." It seriously did not cross my mind what was about to happen. A couple weeks previous to the 4th he emailed my mom (without me knowing haha) and asked her for pictures of me growing up as a little girl. He put all those pictures to a slide show and the song was Dream Big by Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband...one of my favorite songs on all time :) At the end of the slideshow there was a slide that said "And the best is yet to come..." and afterwords put a picture of me and him. At that moment he reached into his pocket, got down on one knee, and said "Rebekah Miriam Larsen, will you marry me?" Of course I couldn't say anything for about a minute, and if you know me well enough I'm sure you're thinkin I probably cried...but I didn't! I was just so happy and couldn't stop smiling! We hugged for about a minute and then I finally got out the word YES! Let me just say as a side note, the ring is beautiful! It's a princess cut with a halo around it and the band has some small diamonds in it--it's very vintage and incredibally beautiful! I love it :)
So, wedding plans! I have ordered my dress, the colors are picked, the day is November 20th, 2010 in the Denver Temple, we have the cake ordered, and a lot of other things nailed down. Let me just say that wedding plans are the best and a total blast :) I'm taking out my endowments in the Provo temple on October 23rd, 2010 and I'm so excited for that!
Let me just say one more thing--Grant Rowe Vanderhorst is the most wonderful man in the world. He treats me so well! He never lets me carry anything heavy (or anything at all for that matter haha), he always gets the door for me, he'll often carry me from one place to another, he cooks, he helps out with cleaning, he served as a solid missionary, he has a strong testimony, he loves the Lord, he loves his family, and he knows how to be friends with everyone. He's an all around stud and I'm utterly and completely in love. And for the record, I've heard a lot of horror stories about in-laws and let me just say I don't have that problem AT ALL! I love Grant's family! His dad is so dang funny and very generous, and I know Grant has learned a lot from his father. His mom is probably the funniest person and is always smiling and she takes very good care of her family--including her kids' spouses. He has 2 older brothers who have a great sense of humor, an older sister who loves everyone, and a younger sister who brings a sweet spirit into the family. I'm definitely a very lucky girl! I promise I'll be better about blogging this Fall :)

An update on my life :)

Alright, so the end of Fall semester was a beautiful thing! My grades turned out much better than I expected, and Christmas break was wonderful!
I was a hermit this break, which isn't normal. I mostly hung out with my family members and saw a couple close family friends, but other than that I watched football...lots and lots of football.
So, then I came back for round 2 of my second year at college. I'm definitely very busy right now, but I love it! I'm taking Math Education 218 (Task and Design for teaching Math), Math 371 (another number theory class), New Testament (The first half), Secondary Education 350 (Adolescent Development), Secondary Education 353 (Multi-cultural education), and CPSE 402 (Teaching students with disabilities). I think my favorite class so far is my Adolescent Development class. I find it really interesting how the body works, and how hormones change and what environmental and genetic impacts can have on development. It's way interesting, and I've enjoyed being able to look back on my own adolescence to see where I fit in.
Alright, time to share some good news. I am getting another sister in law in T-MINUS 3 DAYS! That means I get 3 beautiful and sweet girls to call my sisters. I am also going to be an aunt again in the summer...2 times actually! Both Megan and April are pregger, so my family is definitely growing. Another piece of good news, I have a job this semester! I'm working as a TA for Math 314 (Multi-variable calculus) and I absolutely love it. I don't know how well I'm doing, but I'm definitely trying my best. AND..........last but certainly not least bit of good news...Elder Crowther has 16 more weeks left :) :) :) :) Not that I'm excited about that or anything :) For those who are wondering how he's doing, he's doing excellent! He is working like none-other, and is definitely learning a lot. He's a wonderful example to me :) This semester is going to be excellent!
